Let their personality shine.

snoqualmie children's portrait photographer

Childhood is full of personality—big laughs, curious expressions, and the little quirks that make your child completely unique. My approach to children’s portrait photography is all about creating a relaxed, playful environment where kids can simply be themselves.

Inside my Snoqualmie portrait photography studio, the focus is kept beautifully simple. With clean backdrops, soft lighting, and very few props, nothing distracts from what matters most—your child’s expressions, personality, and joy in this season of life.
These studio sessions are designed to feel easy and fun. Some children love to giggle and move, while others are a little quieter and more thoughtful. Both are perfect. My goal is to capture who your child truly is right now.

One of the things families love most about my children’s portrait photography sessions is the flexibility of the studio setting. Backdrop colors range from classic neutrals for a timeless portrait feel to bold colors that bring out your child’s playful side. Whether you’re envisioning a clean, classic portrait or something a little more vibrant and fun, the studio makes it easy to create portraits that reflect your child’s personality.

The result is a collection of portraits that feel joyful, authentic, and timeless—images that let your child truly shine.

What to Expect From Your Children’s Portrait Photography Session

01

Reserve Your  Date

Choose a date on my booking calendar that works for your family and reserve your session by paying the session fee. Once your date is secured, you’ll receive a short questionnaire that helps me get to know your child a little better.

This is also where you can select your preferred backdrop colors for the session. Whether you love a clean neutral backdrop for a timeless look or want a bold color that lets your child’s personality shine, the studio gives us plenty of options to create portraits that feel just right for your family.

Booking your children’s portrait session is designed to be simple and stress-free from start to finish. Here’s how the process works:

02

Enjoy a Relaxed Studio Experience

On picture day, simply arrive at the studio ready for a laid-back experience focused on your child. Sessions are playful and relaxed, allowing your child’s natural personality to shine.

Some kids love to laugh and move around, while others are a little more thoughtful and observant. Both are perfect. My goal during every children’s portrait photography session is to create a comfortable environment where your child can be themselves while I capture beautiful, personality-filled portraits.

03

View Your Portraits and Choose Your Collection

About 2–3 weeks after your session, you’ll receive a beautiful slideshow of your gallery with at least 20 portraits to view and select from.

At that time, you’ll be able to choose the collection that works best for your family. Whether you’re looking for a few favorite portraits or a full collection of images to enjoy and share, there will be options designed to fit what you love most.

Keepsake

Children’s portrait photography can be wonderful at almost any age. Many families choose to schedule portraits once a year as their child grows, while others book sessions to celebrate a milestone.

These sessions are perfect for marking moments like:

• Birthday portraits
• Losing that first tooth
• Starting school
• Showing off a favorite hobby like ballet or sports
• Simply capturing your child’s personality in this season of life

Some families also love creating a tradition of yearly portraits to see how their children grow and change over time.

If you’re looking for milestone sessions during your baby’s first year, you can learn more on the Baby’s First Year Milestones page.

01. What ages are best for children’s portrait photography?

Most families choose one outfit per backdrop during their children’s portrait photography session.

Because the studio offers several backdrop color options—from classic neutrals to bold colors—this allows families to create a variety of looks while keeping the session relaxed and enjoyable for your child.

The number of outfits can also depend on how quickly your child is comfortable changing outfits. Some kids are happy to switch looks, while others prefer to keep things simple. I’ll always follow your child’s lead to keep the experience fun and stress-free.

Should you wish to include more outfit changes, consider selecting the session-time add on when booking your session.

02. How many outfits can my child wear?

Children’s portrait sessions are designed to focus on your child’s personality and expressions, so these sessions are just for the kids.

If you would love portraits with your child as well, I recommend booking a family studio session instead. The studio setup and lighting are adjusted differently when photographing multiple people, allowing me to create beautiful portraits of your family together.

03. Can parents join the session for a few photos?

Simple outfits tend to photograph best in the studio. Clothing with minimal/subtle patterns or logos helps keep the focus on your child’s face and personality.

Solid colors, soft textures, and outfits that your child feels comfortable in all work beautifully with the studio backdrops. Once you book your session, I’ll also provide guidance to help you choose something that photographs well.

04. What should my child wear?

That’s completely okay—and very normal.

As a mom of six, I know that every child has their own personality and comfort level. Some kids jump right in with big smiles, while others need a few minutes to warm up.

In your pre-session questionnaire you'll be able to share if your child tends to be shy at first or if they have lots of energy to help me know what to expect and best prepare. Even more, you'll be able to share a few favorite topics that I can use as icebreakers.

Of course, bringing a favorite comfort item can help too. Plus, you'll love having a few photos with that thing that they carried around everywhere (trust me, the phase ends and you'll love the ability to look back on that time.)

05. What if my child is shy or doesn’t want to sit still?

Most families book their children’s portrait photography session anywhere from a few weeks to a few months in advance, especially if they’re planning around something specific like a birthday milestone or yearly portraits.

If you’re hoping to capture a moment that doesn’t last long—like a freshly lost tooth or a special accomplishment—it’s best to reach out as soon as possible so we can capture that stage while it’s still new.

The best time to book is simply when you’re thinking about it.
